JOCHEN RIESEBERG
SQL Server & Access specialist · freelance since 1994
I bring database landscapes that have grown out of control back under control.
Grown over the years, built by changing hands, barely documented – and business-critical all the same: that's how many database landscapes look by the time I come in.
My job is rarely a complete rebuild. Most of the time it's about bringing light into the system: What does it actually do? What of it is still needed? And how can it be documented and stabilised so your team can keep working safely even without me?
Since 1994 I have supported companies with everything around Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS/SSRS and Access/VBA – from migration and performance tuning to new development, complemented by ETL/DWH and Power BI.
Modern tools are part of the craft for me: I use AI-assisted tools in everyday project work – for faster analysis, clean documentation and less routine effort. Certified in Anthropic AI Fluency, Claude Code and Claude Cowork.
EXAMPLE Projects

MS SQL Server · SSIS · SSRS · SSAS · DTS · Replication
Landeskriminalamt Thüringen (Thuringia State Criminal Police Office), Erfurt · 2024/2025 Consolidation of heterogeneous sources (REST/API, PostgreSQL) into a SQL Server structure via SSIS; maintenance-free ETL processes even with changing source structures, plus an Access-based maintenance tool that needs no SSMS access. How I work
Rarely is a complete rebuild the answer. Usually, it's about making an existing database landscape understandable, stable, and manageable again – in four steps:
Step 1 - Analyze
I get a clear picture: What does the system really do, what dependencies exist, and what is actually still needed?
Step 3 - Stabilize
Performance, security and maintainability are brought to a reliable level: tuning, backup/recovery, hardening and the elimination of the biggest risks.
Step 2 - Documentation
Topology, interfaces and scattered knowledge are made visible – so that no single head hovers over the system any longer.
Step 4 - Handing over
The end result is a solution that allows your team to continue working independently – without relying on external specialist knowledge.

ABOUT ME
resume
I have been working as a freelance database expert for over 30 years.
My specialism lies in Microsoft SQL Server across all versions –
from design and development through to administration
and performance optimisation and migration.
During this time, I have supported companies across a wide range of sectors
and sizes: from medium-sized manufacturing firms
to international corporations such as Bosch and Telefónica, right through to
public sector organisations.
What drives me: making complex data problems tangible
and delivering solutions that work in the long term.
Outside of work, I am active in CrossFit and competitive shooting –
there, too, I value accuracy and precision.
I am a member of the Lions Club Mülheim-Ruhr Leinpfad.
